Caring For Your Reborn Doll
Congratulations on Your New Baby!
Thank you for welcoming a reborn from Ivy Reborns into your home! With the right care, your new baby can be treasured for many years to come. Please take a moment to review the care guide below to help ensure your reborn stays in beautiful condition.
General Reborn Care (Vinyl Dolls)
Handle with Care: Reborn dolls are delicate art pieces, designed primarily for adult collectors. They are not intended for rough play and are not suitable for young children. Unlike standard dolls made from hard plastic, reborns are crafted with soft vinyl and fine detailing that can be easily damaged with excessive handling.
Avoid Heat & Moisture: Keep your baby away from heat sources and direct sunlight, as high temperatures can soften the vinyl, causing warping or melting. Never leave your reborn in a hot car or near radiators, fireplaces, or windowsills. Excessive moisture can also harm the paint and cloth body, so always store your baby in a dry place.
Clothing & Nappies: Your reborn wears real baby clothes. Most newborn babies will fit newborn or first size, and the toddlers fit 0–3 or 3-6 month clothing depending on the brand. Size 1 nappies usually fit newborns the best.
Posing: While the limbs are poseable, never force them into position. Apply gentle pressure and avoid pulling on the arms or legs, as this can damage the internal joints or the cloth body.
Cleaning: Reborns should never be bathed. The cloth body will absorb water, and the paint may be damaged. If needed, gently wipe the vinyl with a slightly damp cloth and pat dry with a soft towel. Avoid using baby wipes or cleaning products, especially those containing alcohol or harsh chemicals.
Details: Take special care with delicate features such as eyelashes and eyes. Do not pull on eyelashes or expose them to heat, as this may loosen the glue. Eyes are securely glued in place, but pushing on them may cause shifting or damage.
Silicone Reborn Care
If your reborn is made of platinum-cure silicone, it requires slightly different care:
Handling: Silicone is soft and flexible, which makes it feel incredibly lifelike, but it is also fragile. Avoid excessive stretching, pinching, or pulling on limbs or fingers.
Cleaning: Unlike vinyl dolls, silicone babies can be bathed gently with lukewarm water and mild, unscented baby wash. Be sure to support the doll carefully and avoid submerging the head if it contains rooted hair or open mouth mechanisms. Pat dry gently with a soft towel — never rub.
Powdering: Over time, silicone may become tacky. You can lightly dust your baby with matting powder or pure cornstarch using a soft brush. Avoid talc-based powders or scented baby powder, as these can irritate or damage the silicone.
Clothing: Just like vinyl dolls, silicone reborns wear real baby clothes. Use care when dressing to avoid rubbing or tugging, which can cause small tears.
Avoid Sharp Objects: Silicone can tear if punctured or scratched. Keep your baby away from sharp edges, zippers, jewelry, or rough fabrics.
Storage: Store your silicone baby in a cool, dry place on a soft blanket or towel. Avoid storing in dark-colored fabrics or plastic bags, as dyes may transfer or the silicone may become sticky.
